Film Brief Blog Post #2 - 11/14

Well I already got a pretty good idea of what I might want to do last time, but at this stage I'm just brainstorming a bunch of ideas and throwing them at the wall to see what sticks. Eventually I'll have to narrow it down to just one option, but right now I've got a ton of ideas of what I could do. The zombie opening I had last time was fire, but I'd like to get some other options as well in case it doesn't work out. I'll list out some ideas I have, with some key details that I may want to include in my opening regardless of what I choose to go with.

1. Zombie Movie

Same as what I explained last time, but it would be an opening of 2 characters talking and interacting, with a long tracking shot following them, until they suddenly open a door and find a zombie huddled in the corner that turns around and notices them. The tone would shift dramatically, and they would try to escape as one of the characters is picked off. The character that survives finally makes it out and sighs, but is grabbed at the last second by a zombie off screen. This idea is pretty fleshed out, and even if I don't go for it I'd like to include a tone shift in my opening as that's one of my favorite plot devices in movies.

2. Mystery/Thriller Movie

This is more of a vague idea rather than a specific opening, but I could follow some sort of mystery, where at the end the detective finds that the killer is still in the house he's searching, and either the killer catches him and gets him or the detective just barely gets out? I like the idea of using a plot twist that reveals a major plot point.

3. Comedy where 2 people are hiding from something (a zombie?)

This would be a very challenging one, since it would be completely focused on dialogue and delivery and I'm not sure I really trust my acting skills enough. It doesn't necessarily have to be a comedy, but some sort of scene with a heavy focus on dialogue and character interaction might be a good idea.

4. Scene with a character narrating? This really isn't a specific idea at all but I was thinking an opening with a grizzly sort of character narrating, it would be tough to do as I really don't know what I'd show cinematography-wise while he's narrating and I have no idea what specific plot I'd have for it, but it could be cool.

5. Opening with orchestral/opera music over a chaotic scene, perhaps for an action or drama type movie? Not a fleshed out idea but I really love those kinds of scenes with a huge juxtaposition of the music and what's happening on screen.
